Reading the site
You can read every page without an account or email address. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. Like any website, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site.
We measure visits with Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused tool that sets no cookies and doesn’t identify individual visitors. It records aggregate counts such as pages viewed, referring sites, country, device type, and actions like starting a challenge, winning, sharing, or subscribing (with details like which topics were chosen). It never receives your email address, your voice, or your conversation.
Email subscriptions
- What we store: your email address, the topics you chose, where on the site you subscribed, confirmation and unsubscribe status with dates, and your optional answer to “Who should you convince next?”.
- Why: to send the updates you asked for, and only those topics.
- Confirmation: nothing is sent except the confirmation email until you confirm. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days.
- How long: while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we don’t email you again by mistake. Ask us to delete it completely and we will.
- Service providers: data is stored in Cloudflare D1 and emails are sent with Cloudflare Email Service.
The voice challenge
- Your audio: when you start a round, your browser streams your microphone audio directly to theOpenAI Realtime API, operated by OpenAI, which generates the dragon’s voice replies and an automatic transcript. DessaGuide does not receive or record your audio.
- The transcript: our server receives the transcript while the round is running, to run the clock and decide the result. At the end of a round we send the transcript to OpenAI once more to write the short result explanation. We keep it in memory only while the round and its result are active; we don’t write it to our database or logs.
- OpenAI’s handling: OpenAI processes this data as our service provider under its API terms. SeeOpenAI’s API data policies for how long it may retain API data and for what purposes.
- Round records: to enforce the free-play limit and prevent abuse, we store for 30 days: a random browser ID (in a cookie named
dg_vid), a one-way hashed version of your IP address, when the round started and ended, and its outcome. No audio or transcript. - Optional video clip: if you leave “Make a video of this round” switched on, your browser records the round (your voice, the dragon’s voice and captions) on your own device so you can download or share it at the end. The clip is never sent to us and disappears when you leave the page unless you save it. Share cards are also made in your browser.
- Nothing is published by us: we don’t share or publish recordings or conversations. Anything you post is your choice.
Contact form
We store messages you send through the contact form (your email, topic, and message) so we can answer them, for up to 12 months, and forward a copy to our inbox.
Bot protection
Forms and the voice challenge use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a real person is using them. Turnstile processes browser signals to do this; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
